Bend over, sir

I'm sick of it. Why the hell do we continue to technologically progress at such an unparalleled clip, but intellectually regress even quicker? The more mindless entertainment which is consumed on the big screen, via the ubiquitous iPod, on Facebook, YouTube, Perez Hilton et al leaves us more cretinous than a good George Romero flick.

The more we invest our godforsaken time into these events we consume ourselves to incapable ends of intellectual stability. All the while the world falls to fuckin' shite. We stand idly by as Zimbabwe is easily consumed by a megalomaniacal autocrat. Gas prices are at the highest ever. F'n ever, but no one is caring. Why? We are too senseless and obedient to do otherwise. We live in a vacuum which undermines any thought at subversion anyone flirts with. Food along with every other product/service has sky-rocketed in price, yet we keep sitting on our numb hands. What the hell is a communal, active voice? Where the hell are we? Not on cloud nine, that's for sure. Well, maybe so, iPods seem to deliver us there from occasion to occasion.

First, I agree with you about Zimbabwe.

But interestingly enough I disagree with you about gas and food. Unfortunately, one and the other go hand in hand across the world these days.
Yes there is a shortage of gas, and yes 80% of the price of corn has to do with alternative fuels...but who but the people (North America at that) have been putting bumper stickers on their cars for alternative fuels? Ethanol is a good place to make money now that we don’t just eat it.

When speaking about gas (crude oil), we should be looking to China, who are still paying 50 cents a litre because their government is subsidizing their gas prices. And while North American demand for Gas goes down, the U.S. primarily, and the ipod, perez hilton, george romero supplying continent - takes the hit for it.

I think the idea is a good one. Obviously human rights should be at the forefront, but the same people who leave lights on, drive cars, use computers, look for alternative fuel, and buy products made in china…are the same people who want the consumption to stop.

I think what we should be worried about is why China gets flack for its crimes against humanity highlighted on the world stage, and then maybe why Zimbabwe does not. That’s ipod, Perez Hilton and George Romero’s fault.

All in all, I don’t think that it’s the culture that is worth complaining about but instead - maybe we really need to take short look away from North America as a whole and a quick look at ourselves. It might make the answer as simple as the question... and it might look more like were doing too much to perpetuate the problems, rather than doing too little to solve them.
